This field trip is for 8-17 year old youth who are interested in learning more about birds. We will visit Lyonia Nature Preserve a 360 acre preserve which offers a great place to observe the Florida Scrub Jay and other inhabitants of the unique Florida scrub habitat.
The participants will hike about 1.2 miles in the scrub observing some of the 124 species of animals and 164 species of plants that live in this imperiled habitat.
Possible bird sightings include Florida Scrub Jay, Red-tailed Hawk, Common Ground Dove, Pine Warbler, Chipping Sparrow, Eastern Towhee, American Kestrel, Loggerhead Shrike, Brown Thrasher and Blue-headed Vireo.
Animals that may be seen include Gopher Tortoises, Six-lined Racerunner, Oak Toad, Green Anole, White-tailed Deer and Eastern Cottontail.
