Today, more than ever, children need to have the confidence and skills to defend themselves and to succeed in life. Unlike many other martial arts systems that are based on brute force, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) emphasizes defense and grappling-based techniques. However, skills and techniques without a philosophy and atmosphere of respect, health, teamwork, discipline, honesty, benevolence and generosity mean nothing. This is why the most important part of our academy is our guiding philosophy.

At Ralph Gracie Florida Brazilian-Jiu Jitsu academy we teach the kids that they need to avoid a fight at all costs. However, when the fight is completely unavoidable we teach them to defend off their back and while standing. We teach them from a perspective of defending against an attacker who wants to strike. We train them to gain control of the attacker, not to hurt them.
