Good Shepherd Academy offers a Christian education option to the families of Deltona.

Our Educational Philosophy

At Good Shepherd Academy, we know how difficult it can be to raise a child. We exist to help parents in this God-given responsibility. We strive to build meaningful relationships with each GSA family, enabling our staff to understand and respond to the unique needs of each child.

Christ-Centered Academics

Our curriculum is balanced and comprehensive, seeking to enrich each child's mind and enlighten the heard through the timeless truths of God's Word.

At GSA, we keep our focus on the future for our students. We believe in equipping our students with the tools they need to succeed in and out of the classroom. From service opportunities to high school readiness, GSA students are trained to be future leaders wherever they go.

Joshua VonDeylen

Joshua VonDeylen, Principal & Administrator

Principal VonDeylen graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota. He is currently pursuing a Master’s of Science in Educational Administration.

Mr. VonDeylen has served in Deltona since 2020. Prior to joining GSA, he served as a high school dormitory supervisor and English teacher.

In addition to his roles as Principal & Administrator, Mr. VonDeylen currently teaches Catechism to the 6th grade students and Algebra.

Mr. VonDeylen loves spending time outside mowing his lawn, playing sports, and playing games with his wife. He loves the opportunities he has to teach and preach the pure Gospel message of forgiveness to the kids and families of Deltona.

Alexandra Rivera

Alexandra Rivera, Kindergarten

Mrs. Alexandria Rivera graduated from Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN in 2015 with her teaching degree in early childhood and elementary education. She started at Good Shepherd Academy as her first teaching opportunity, serving as the second grade teacher for five years and now as kindergarten teacher since 2020. She has led academic clubs and coached cheerleading. Mrs. Rivera enjoys reading, listening to music, traveling, dancing, and playing games. She feels privileged to teach the children about their Savior and be part of their early learning!

I graduated from Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN in 2015 with my teaching degree in early childhood and elementary education. I started at Good Shepherd Academy as my first teaching opportunity, serving as the second grade teacher for five years and now as kindergarten teacher since 2020. I have led academic clubs and coached cheerleading. I enjoy reading, listening to music, traveling, dancing, and playing games. Linden Jahns

Linden Jahns, 1st Grade

Linden Jahns grew up in rural Wisconsin. She attended Martin Luther College and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education, minoring in mathematics and Spanish.

She then spent five years in SouthEast Asia serving as a missionary with Friends Network and teaching kindergarten and first grade at an underground Christian school.

Her hobbies include language learning and spending time outside. She is excited to meet all of you, especially her students!

Jo Carmichael, 3rd Grade

Hi! My name is Jo Carmichael and I graduated from Dr. Martin Luther College in 1980 with a degree in elementary education. Most of my teaching experiences have been spent in Minnesota in our Lutheran grade schools teaching grade levels from K-6.

Some of my favorite hobbies are gardening, baking, and playing piano and organ. I have a special love for dragonflies.

I look forward to having the privilege of sharing God’s Word with your children each day. I also am excited to teach alongside one of my four daughters.

Kara Peter

Welcome, 4th grade families!

My name is Kara Peter, and I will be teaching 4th grade this year. I graduated from Martin Luther College in 2022 with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Communication Arts and Literature. After student teaching in Minnesota, I moved to South Haven, MI where I taught 5th-8th grade and departmentalized music for one year. In the summer of 2023, I relocated to Deltona to teach here at Good Shepherd Academy.

I enjoy spending time outdoors, reading, writing, and playing the piano. I'm excited to get to know a new group of students this year! My goal is to help each student thrive by encouraging a love of learning and a joy in our salvation through Jesus Christ.

Anne DeNoyer, 5th Grade Homeroom, 4-8th Social Studies & Art

Hi there! I’m Anne DeNoyer and have been at GSA since it opened! I graduated from Martin Luther
College in 1998 with a BS in Elementary Ed, and have taught every grade at some point, except
Kindergarten. I’ve taught in the middle school department for the last 10 years, and am currently the 5 th
grade home room teacher, and 4th-8th grade Social Studies and Art teacher. I have 5 grown children
and 3 grandchildren who I spend time with every chance I get! I also enjoy the beach, traveling, music,
and trying new foods! I’m excited about the opportunities ahead of sharing Jesus and applying Christian
values to the lives of our students!

Alison Wiedmann, 6th Grade Homeroom

Hi! I am Miss Ali Wiedmann. I am the 6th grade homeroom teacher and 4th through 8th grade math teacher. This is my 22nd year teaching. The past years I have taught K through 4th in Valentine, NE, 1st grade in Watertown, WI and 1st grade for 8 years here at Good Shepherd Academy. I graduated from Martin Luther College in 2001 with a Bachelors degree in Education. Here at GSA I coach the K to 2nd grade run club, track and field and give piano lessons.

In my free time I love running on trails, reading a good book and baking. I love teaching and watching students light up with understanding and hearing the truths of God's Word!

Crystal Carmichael

Hello! My name is Crystal Carmichael and I am the 6th grade homeroom and 5th-8th grade science and physical education teacher. I earned my Bachelors of Science degree in Elementary Education and K-12 Physical Education with a coaching minor from Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN. Throughout my years of teaching, I have experienced teaching in every grade level from kindergarten through 12th grade. Before coming to Good Shepherd Academy (GSA), I was a dorm supervisor and instructor at St. Croix Lutheran Academy in West St. Paul, MN for 2.5 years.

In July 2021, I made the move from Minnesota to Florida to teach at GSA. Currently, I am a 6th grade homeroom teacher and 5th-8th grade science and physical education teacher. I strive to find hands-on activities for the students to discover more about the world God created. I love being able to coach basketball and soccer at GSA. When I am not at school, I enjoy being outside, journaling, traveling to visit family and friends, exploring new coffee shops, and staying busy with activities and sports.

My name is Elsie VonDeylen and I have served at GSA since 2020. I graduated from Martin Luther College with a dual bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Instrumental Music Education. I currently teach 4th-8th grade English Language Arts and 2nd-8th grade music. I am also the school music coordinator and lead the school’s ukulele club. When I’m not in my classroom, I enjoy going to the beach, playing ukulele, and playing flute as part of the Volusia Community Symphony. It is such a joy getting to serve at Good Shepherd and make strong Christian relationships with my students!

Christopher Goelzer

Pastor Christopher Goelzer

Pastor Chris is an ordained minister of the gospel and graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in 1996. He has served congregations in Louisiana, Texas, Wisconsin before coming to Deltona in 2017.

Pastor Chris and his wife, Heidi, have been married since 1993, and have been blessed with four children: Charis, Nathanael, Anastasia and Gabriel. Charis and her husband, Paul, had their first child, Theo, in 2017. Pastor Chris and his family have a passion for bringing God’s powerful Word to the families of Good Shepherd and the community of Deltona.
