Ormond Beach is named for Captain James Ormond I, an Anglo-Irish-Scotch sea captain, who was commissioned by King Ferdinand VII of Spain to bring Franciscan settlers to the area.

In the early 1800s, James Ormond Tomb Park was part of a 2,000-acre parcel of land that was developed into a cotton and indigo plantation called Damietta by Captain James Ormond I. The current nine-acre park was donated to the park service in 1945, and is the resting place of Captain Ormond's son, James Ormond II.

The park offers a playground, nature trail, pavilion, picnic tables, and restrooms.
